Unique Design

“Let there be light.”

These are the first words recorded in scripture. The first recorded words of God. The very first creation, and the beginning of the story of the world we live in. From that moment, everything that exists was created, and set into motion everything that was meant to be.

Consider this, however. Before the Lord even began to utter these words, before the story of our existence, and before eternity which God existed in before He created us, He knew us. Not just us as a whole; He knew you. But not just you. He knew you individually. He knew who you are, and who you would be. He knew every detail about you. He knew what you would look like, what your desires and interests would be, what your struggles would be, and what you would face in life. He knew your future, your characterstics, and He knew you then better than you know yourself now.

I don’t know about you, but simply thinking about that blows my mind! Why would an all-powerful, all-knowing God who created everything through spoken word, take the time to value and cherish me individually? What is it about you or me that makes us His prized creation? Consider everything else around us; the stars, planets, seas, plants, animals, etc. It seems like everything around us is so much more majestic. Why would He value us over anything else?

Notice in Genesis that God created only one thing by hand. He crafted us, shaped us, and took His time on us.

“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into His nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” -Genesis 2:7

 Everything else was spoken into existence. But our already perfect Creator took extra time to make sure that we were made just right. In the same way that an artist or a musician values his or her creation, and goes to extra lengths to make sure that nothing ruins it, God is our sculptor and values His masterpiece above anything else.

What else makes us special? We were created in His image. “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” We bear the very image of God! We exemplify the signature on His masterpiece of creation! We are more valuable than anything God has ever made!

I’m totally blown away by all of this. If you have read this far and aren’t in total awe of the majesty and worthiness of our Lord, you need to go back and read again! We are fearfully and wonderfully made in the very image of God!

In this culture and this society, the world has convinced us that we are nothing special. We are no better than any other animal out there. We live, we breed, we die. Who cares? We can live our lives however we want.

Knowing how perfectly and how wonderfully God created each person in each unique way, and His perfect design and faithfulness to us, I can say without a doubt that each and every person is special and unique. I am willing challenge anybody who would tell me otherwise, because my God has fearfully designed me individually. He has fearfully designed you individually. He has even fearfully designed the enemies of His word individually.

“ The heavens declare the glory of God;And the firmament shows His handiwork.” -Psalm 19:1

God’s thumbprint is on all of creation. But we are the signature on His masterpiece. We reflect our Lord. Let’s give God what is His. He is more than worthy of all of our praise and worship. Nobody is without excuse. Let’s worship Him for how awesome He truly is!
